Thanks John, for detailing the different characteristics of technology waves to anticipate what the AI wave may unleash. You are very much correct about "AI differs in a number of ways from things we have seen before". Hence, a model of human capabilities and their roles in different types of work, as well as the relative complexities of automating and augmenting them by AI and other technologies, may be helpful in anticipating likely transformation. Love this piece John. A very useful contribution. The social-cultural, political, historical and geographical context of such technological revolutions is so often downplayed in popular narratives.
